NEW ARTISTS AT SESAME IN JANUARY
Henrijs Preiss & Paul Hickinbotham
From Wednesday 14th January
Reception with the artists: Friday 16th January,
6:00 - 8:30
Coinciding with the Art 2004 Fair at the Business
Design Centre (just across the road from Sesame),
two new artists will be showing their work at
Sesame: Henrijs Preiss and Paul Hickinbotham.
Henrijs
Preiss is a Latvian artist who works in London.
Drawing heavily on early Russian and medieval
religious iconography, he creates precious mystical
works on wood through a combination of colour,
texture, and geometry. The works have a strong
physical presence; they call out to be touched
and appreciated as something special, meaningful,
and alluring.
Paul
Hickinbotham is a Brighton-based photographer
whose work has
been used in projects such as the "Fatboy
Slim Live on Brighton beach" CD, and appears
in the collections of numerous celebrities, including
Keith Tyson, the 2003 Turner Prize winner. Paul's
diptychs and combinations of abstract textures
have a clean contemporary aesthetic, mounted on
MDF to give the images maximum impact and presence.
The artists explore iconography in culture from
two very different perspectives. Although stylistically
distinct, their work shares strong physical presence
and an ability to use texture to great effect
in the creation of an artistic work.
