"Emotions in Stone"
Mark Humphrey Sculpture
Starts Friday 9th January
Reception with the artist: Friday 9th, 6:00
- 8:30pm
The
sculptor Mark Humphrey celebrates his recent election
to the National Society of Painters, Printmakers
and Sculptors with a show of his work at Sesame
Art on Upper Street, Islington. Beginning on Friday
9th January to coincide with the London Art Fair
at the Business Design Centre, the show will act
as both a retrospective of Mark's work and a timely
insight into this sculptor's progression into
the next phase of his career.
Having already been selected by the Royal Society
of British Artists in May 2003, Mark Humphrey
was elected as an associate member of the National
Society of Painters, Printmakers and Sculptors
in November 2003, joining names such as Henry
Moore, LS Lowry and Mark Gertler in one of Britain's
long-standing artistic organisations. Already
an established sculptor with private and public
commissions under his belt in both the UK and
USA, the award reflects the increasing desirability
of Mark's work.
The show at Sesame Art brings together some of
Mark's landmark works, offering insight into his
approach anddevelopment.Creating both
one-off sculpturesand limited edition casts,Mark
uses the solidity of stone to map out and explore
the realm of emotional experiences and responses.
The result is sculpture that sits comfortably
between figurative and abstract, bridging the
gap between the physical and the emotional in
an aesthetically enticing style.
The January show offers both collectors and newcomers
to Mark's work the opportunity to explore his
style and ideas, to appreciate his craftsmanship,
and to either purchase or commission a sculpture
from this increasingly collectible artist.
The show takes place at Sesame Art at 354 Upper
Street, Islington, close to the Business Design
Centre. Coinciding with the London Art Fair at
the Business Design Centre, Mark Humphrey's show
looks sure to make an impression with the community
of discerning art collectors that will be visiting
Sesame Art during the fair. The gallery is designed
to make quality original art from up-and-coming
British artists accessible to a wide audience
in a friendly, open environment.
